Creating Tarot Boards
by Eliza Yetter
(written in 2000 / revised 2007)

Tarot boards are a simple way to learn the tarot layouts and their meanings.

To make a tarot board, you will need poster board, pencil, ruler, markers, and the measurements of your tarot cards.

Select a new layout you want to learn. With a ruler and pencil, mark out the placement of the cards on the poster board. Then, with the marker, draw the outlines of where the cards will be placed. Within each outline of a card, write down what the placement means. How are you to read the card that is placed there? Above the outline, write the placement number. Is it the first card you lay down or the fifth? Once completed, it's ready for use.

If you are a felt crafter, felt boards can be made in a similar manner. Felt squares can be cut to the size of the tarot deck and felt numbers for the chronology of the layout. For the meanings of the placements, write the meanings on notecards to keep in front of yourself as you read your tarot.
