A few nights ago I made a pillow with a spiral on it to invoke change in
my life.
The outside casing of the pillow is about 5" x 5" and felt. The spiral
sewn on top of it was made by first cutting out a circle from felt and
then cutting inwards to form the spiral.
The case is made of grey to symbolize the grey areas in life. The
outside edges were sewn with black embroidery thread because with change
there is always death of old ways. The spiral is made of dark red for
the blood of mother, or menstrual blood (blood of life and the beginning
of all life) and sewn on with white embroidery thread for the purity of
creation.
For the stuffing, I sewed a muslin pillow, about 4" x 4", and filled it
with:
2 parts pennyroyal
1 part parsely
1 part sage

I keep it in my pillow case for while I sleep because I believe that
change often begins with dreams as does inspiration.
